Application Process

The applicant process consists of several parts and can take 1 -
2 months to complete. If you are serious about pursuing an interest in Emergency
Medical Services, you are recommended to prepare as thoroughly as possible
for ALL phases of the applicant process. |

The
Virginia Beach Department of Emergency Medical Services is the largest volunteer
rescue service in the country with over 780 volunteers serving the city of
over 498,000 residents. Step
1: Call
the Department of Emergency Medical Services at 757-385-1999. Tell
them you wish to volunteer within the Department. At that time, you will be
signed you up for an orientation class. This class will highlight the many
facets of the Department and personally guide you though the application
process. Step
2: Complete
the following paperwork. ·
NCIC Form ·
Copy
of DMV transcript [all applicants MUST provide local or out-of-state
copy of transcript for the past three years]. Step
3: (Only applies if you have previous Provide
EMS Administration with copies of State of Any
other certifications whether rescue or fire should be submitted. Acceptable
CPR certifications: ·
American Heart Association - BCLS Provider Course ·
American Red Cross - Professional Course Step
4: Register
for next available Step
5: Upon
completion of the application process, the Chief of EMS will either approve
or disapprove of the application Step
6: Approved
applicants will be notified in writing. Approved applications will be
forwarded to our Membership Coordinator with Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad to
be brought before the rescue squad membership for vote as a probationary
member. Step
7: Issuance
of id badge and AIC booklet. Step
8: Sign
up and start running duties! For
